On 25 May 2018 the current Data Protection Act will be replaced by the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The new regulation will extend the rights of the individual and ensure legislation matches the ever changing technology around us.
It will affect every business that holds personal data (including customer and employee data) and how they collect, process and store it. The regulation includes new elements and significant enhancements on the current legislation making it essential to plan your approach to GDPR compliance now.
This invaluable breakfast briefing will introduce you to the main concepts and principles of the GDPR, identify the common risk factors and provide practical tips and steps you can take to ensure your business is compliant. At the end of the session, you will have a deeper understanding of how GDPR will affect your business, enabling you to begin preparations straight away.
Ian Howard, the Managing Director of JMP Solicitors, will deliver the briefing. After graduating with an Honours degree in Law in 1997, Ian originally qualified as a Barrister before successfully re-qualifying as a Solicitor in 2000. Ian worked for a leading international law firm before becoming one of the founder members of JMP Solicitors. He has extensive experience in all aspects of commercial litigation.
Stuart McFarlane, Digital Development Programme Leader for Business Lincolnshire Growth Hub, will join and support Ian in delivery of this Bitesize briefing. Stuart will outline the support on offer to help businesses including a follow on full day’s workshop on GDPR, to help businesses to fully understand the requirements and the implications of this new regulation but more importantly the practical steps and minor changes that businesses can make to their current processes for handling personal and client information. The workshop is fully funded by Business Lincolnshire and there is no cost to the delegate, the only requirement is to register onto the support programme.
Stuart will also highlight other workshops and masterclasses on offer covering a range of digital topics and the £1,000 Digital Grant which is available to improve your business IT security.
