Onlincolnshire| is campaigning to bring faster broadband to Lincolnshire. The first stage is to identify where the main issues are with residents and businesses – this is done by having as many Lincolnshire residents register onto www.onlincolnshire.org| as possible. In turn this will provide the evidence needed to encourage commercial suppliers to invest in next generation broadband infrastructure in Lincolnshire. Onlincolnshire also encourages communities to work together to resolve their local connectivity issues. The website gives great examples of how groups have already done this.
Join the campaign for better broadband
We’re asking everyone to give up just five minutes of their time to register support for improved broadband in Lincolnshire.
In this digital age, with the rapid growth of the internet and online services, fast, effective broadband connections are seen as vital to everyday life and business. And, in rural areas where residents have a slow connection or indeed none at all, it’s even more vital to have good connections between people, services, businesses and information.
The Government is making a huge commitment to have the best broadband across Europe by 2015 and that is why all Lincolnshire district councils, and private and public sector organisations worked with Onlincolnshire (part of Lincolnshire County Council) to bid for Broadband Delivery UK government funding.
It has been announced that Lincolnshire will receive over £14m in funding. The money will be used to give greater internet speeds across rural Lincolnshire to help solve the lack of broadband in areas where the market is not expected to invest. The aim is to deliver ‘standard speed’ broadband (2mbps) to all areas and to maximise the reach of superfast services. To achieve this aim, additional public and private investment will be needed to match the government funds.
The goal
- To encourage commercial suppliers to invest in next generation broadband infrastructure in Lincolnshire. To do this there will need to be evidence of demand and identification of where the main connectivity issues are. By registering onto www.onlincolnshire.org| we can show there is demand for next generation broadband services.
- To make businesses aware that having access to fast broadband allows opportunities that aren’t otherwise available.
It is important to spread the word within the business community to register with Onlincolnshire so that evidence of demand can be shown and areas where there are connectivity issues can be identified. Evidence of demand gives strength to negotiation with suppliers and this is where you can really make a difference.

Some people will live and work in parts of the county that already have good broadband connectivity. However, there are many parts of the county that have much poorer service and everyone can help the campaign to get better broadband for the whole of the county.
