Grantham for Growth is an ambitious programme of investment to deliver 7,000 new homes by 2026.

Led by Lincolnshire County Council and South Kesteven District Council, the partnership is working closely with the private sector to deliver the growth. Under the programme, the planned growth in residential development provides Grantham with an opportunity to realise its full potential as a sub-regional centre, particularly with regards to delivering sustainable economic growth and creating new jobs in the knowledge economy. It is forecast that Grantham may generate over 4,000 additional jobs by 2026.

SKDC and LCC have a vision for Grantham to become:

  • A bigger, better and more balanced town
  • A connected town
  • A gateway to a sustainable future
  • Provide sustainable benefits for all

As the UK emerges from the economic challenges of the last few years, Partners remain as committed as ever to deliver this vision and have developed a strong rapport with private sector landowners, businesses and developers. In order to deliver the growth aspirations for Grantham a number of key development sites have been identified including two large, sustainable urban extension sites, as well as four town centre sites which, once redeveloped, will provide high value employment opportunities and housing growth as well as significantly enhancing the retail and leisure facilities in the town.

The partnership is currently focussing on a number of key projects that will facilitate the delivery of the housing growth, as well as providing the town with significant employment opportunities.

Southern Quadrant

A sustainable urban extension site to the south of the town, which offers the potential for new, mixed use, residential and employment development, with integrated community and educational facilities.

An area of land comprising approximately 195 hectares to the south of Grantham; the site has the capacity to provide significant new homes together with employment, education, neighbourhood retail and community infrastructure. A new relief road will be provided as part of the development which will improve east - west linkages across Grantham and relieve traffic congestion in the town centre.

Planning consent has been granted for a major new employment area adjacent to the A1 which will be developed as an early part of the scheme. This scheme will comprise a major distribution hub totalling 120,000 sq m and will support the delivery of an improved strategic access to the A1

One of the key projects, which has recently received outline planning permission, is Station Approach. This Phase One project comprises of a 2.21 hectare site adjacent to the railway station in Grantham, offering a prominent commercial location, highly visible from the East Coast Main Line, and the main approach to the town centre. It is a mixed use development scheme, providing office and retail space, a hotel, and an innovation and incubation centre. We are keen to speak to developers about this opportunity.

Town Centre Improvements

Grantham’s town centre is ideal for regeneration and has great potential to grow and develop. Plans identified in the Growth Point Programme will enable the town centre to enjoy increased footfall, offering better services for local people through mixed-use development including; retail, leisure, office, public realm, transport and education facilities. Development briefs have been prepared and adopted for two sites at Greyfriars and Wharf Road which will focus on improving the business retail offer and the night time economy as well as both commercial and community use. In addition an overarching theme will be improved pedestrian access, connectivity, and the public realm in general.
