CDS - A New Era in Customs Clearance

There are important new rules for businesses that import and export goods, these rules changed on 30th September 2022.

What does this mean for your business?

HMRC formally replaced the Customs Handling of Import and Export Freight (CHIEF) system for import declarations with a new Customs Declaration Service (CDS). The CHIEF system closed for exports on 31st March 2022.

CDS is a new digital platform, that changes from the use of box numbers to data elements. This will place greater responsibility on the importer/ exporter providing the correct instructions and information to their agent/ freight forwarder.
