This online course will be run over two Friday mornings in March 2021. This will enable you to practice some of the things learnt in Session one and prepare you for Session two. Friday 19th March 9am to 1pm - Session one and Friday 26th March 9am to 1pm - Session two

The growth and the ability to capture video moments continues to rise and prove an effective tool to communicate quickly. Smartphones, simple editing apps and accessories make it easier than ever to produce high quality, captivating video. This hands-on workshop aims to provide you with the tools to confidentially get the best from your phone and create engaging video content, in a style appropriate to your audience.

Whether you are a small business owner, manage a venue, holiday park, B&B or attraction, a charity or just want to improve the way you document and communicate using simple tools. Our team will guide you through a process to help capture engaging moments, stories or events.

You’ll learn how to get the best out of your smartphone's capabilities and taken through the steps of capturing video, editing and uploading.

About the tutors

This course has been developed by the University of Lincoln’s School of English and Journalism that has produced students now working for the BBC, ITV and Sky.

Our tutors for this online course are seasoned broadcast professionals and journalists having worked on major UK TV such as the BBC, ITV, GMTV and news, sports, entertainment, and features.

Learning Outcomes

  • What makes a good video and getting the most from your phone’s camera
  • Understanding basic filming and getting a great shot
  • Introduction to film editing apps and camera accessories
  • How to present to camera and filming people
  • Lighting
  • Preparing and adding in a voice over
  • Ability to target appropriate audiences
  • Bringing it all together, editing, uploading, sharing and planning the sequel

All those that complete the course will receive a Certificate of Achievement.

Who Should Attend?

Using Apple or Android our course will suit those with little or no experience of filming but a keen interest to showcase the world around them.

The course would particularly suit those working in the visitor economy, communications, PR and marketing and want to find new ways to enhance webpages, social media or vlogs.
