Published on: 02/12/2021

The Prime Minister has announced new measures in response to the new Omicron variant of COVID-19.

This includes the mandatory wearing of face coverings in shops and on public transport, as well as the use of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests on or before day two for all international arrivals. It was also announced that self-isolation would be enforced for contacts of suspected Omicron cases, including for those who are fully vaccinated.

New materials have been provided for businesses to use to help communicate and enforce these new measures. They can be accessed here

The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) also updated the working safely guidance for several sectors on 30th November. These sectors include events and attractions, hotels and guest accommodation, as well as shops, branches and contact services.

These new updates involve changes to sections on the new measures that came into effect regarding the enforcement of face coverings, self-isolation and testing after international travel as a result of the Omicron variant.
