What is the grant available for?
Where a landowner removes potentially dangerous roadside trees, there is a general amenity loss, as well as a reduction in wildlife habitat.
In such circumstances Highways can offer three free replacement trees for each tree felled plus materials for their protection.

The grant is provided subject to the following conditions;
All free trees and materials are collected or delivered from the site specified by the County Council.
Planting sites shall be in the general vicinity of the original tree, on private land and not the highway verge.
Work shall be carried out to the standard shown in the booklet “Practical Tree and Hedge Planting” obtainable on collection of plants.
Future maintenance (applying on approved herbicide around the base of the trees for at least three years) is the responsibility of the applicant.
Ownership of the trees becomes the responsibility of the landowner.
