Made in Lincolnshire: Celebrating Manufacturing Excellence

The Manufacturing Sector play a key role in the economic landscape of Greater Lincolnshire and Rutland, driving growth, innovation, and prosperity across the region. 

With approximately 66,000 individuals employed in the sector, manufacturing accounts for a significant portion of the local workforce, representing 14% of all jobs in Greater Lincolnshire and Rutland. Moreover, the sector's substantial contribution of £4.76 billion constitutes a remarkable 20% of the total economic value of the local area - a testament to its enduring significance and impact. According to MakeUK’s research, the UK manufacturing sector has also experienced significant growth, with output reaching £224 billion, elevating its global ranking from 9th to 8th place.

At the heart of Lincolnshire's manufacturing expertise lies a diverse list of businesses, both big and small, each contributing its unique blend of knowledge, creativity, and innovation to the region's economic environment, under the banner of 'Made in Lincolnshire'. Despite concerns of economic conditions, challenges such as energy prices and geopolitical instability persist, opportunities are perceived to outweigh risks by 62% of manufacturers, suggesting a positive outlook for the sector. Our region has remained resilient despite the challenges faced on the national stage, with only a modest decline in manufacturing employment compared to the broader landscape. The County’s strategic location, coupled with its skilled workforce and supportive business environment, positions it as a prime destination for manufacturing investment, growth and success. Moreover, the sector continues to evolve and adapt, leveraging technological advancements and innovation to drive productivity, competitiveness, and opportunities. 

The potential for the sector is clear in the statistics shared by MakeUK at the recent Greater Lincolnshire and Rutland Manufacturing Conference 2024, showing that more than half of manufacturers (53%) are gearing up to launch new products, indicating a clear focus on innovation and market expansion.  

Furthermore, digital technology is also seen as a driver of productivity, with 71% of manufacturers agreeing on its importance in 2024, demonstrating the significant role of blending the physical and digital realms, advancing automation, and embracing cutting-edge technology to elevate workforces and help them compete against competitors and boost productivity.
