Assessing and mitigating bias and discrimination in AI

This course explains what is meant by bias in the context of machine learning algorithms, how bias can be present in the training data & how it can be unintentionally introduced in the learning phase

Event Information

The learning experience will provide ample opportunities for discussion with experts and peers about how these concepts apply in the Agrifood sector, as well as giving hands-on practice with relevant examples. Participants in this course will explore the following topics:

  • Overview of trustworthy AI
  • Discussion of types and sources of bias in machine learning
  • Measuring bias in binary classification and beyond
  • Techniques for mitigating bias,
  • Trade-offs with other verticals
  • Large Language Models

These 2-day courses will run as follows, from 10am - 1:30pm. You will need to attend both days.

29 May 2024
5 June 2024

This course is open for applications to participants from UK-based Small and Medium Enterprises in the Creative Industries that are currently developing or using AI solutions, or looking to employ them in their organisation.

Applicants will need to have:

  • Exposure to relevant ML concepts (different types of models; how to train, validate test models; how to measure a model’s performance),
  • Experience developing and implementing ML models in python using Jupyter or Google Colab notebooks
You will be asked to demonstrate knowledge in these areas via a brief questionnaire before joining the course.
