Could someone in your team or community group inspire others to build essential life skills? If so, Lincolnshire County Council is offering £1,000 grants to help you do just that.
Through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, the new Skills Champion programme promotes and supports literacy, numeracy, and digital skills development in local communities and workplaces. Whether you're a business, charity or community group, if you have five or more employees or volunteers, you could apply to become a Literacy, Numeracy, or Digital Skills Champion - or a mix of all three (up to four Champions per organisation).

A Skills Champion is someone who helps others build confidence in everyday essential skills, not by teaching, but by encouraging learning through practical, informal activities. From organising a book club to running a digital drop-in session, Skills Champions make learning approachable and relevant from reading recipes to budgeting, using spreadsheets, or setting up email accounts.
Each grant supports your time, creativity and commitment, as well as any costs involved in running activities and meeting monitoring requirements. This could include:
- Cooking: understanding weights, measures, and following recipes
- Shopping: budgeting and calculating best deals
- Crafting: measuring and planning projects
- Gardening: estimating space and plant volumes
- Community Clubs: promoting reading and storytelling
- Digital Literacy: helping people access and use online tools
Skills Champions are supported through regular networking sessions and connections with Adult Learning providers to help bring ideas to life.
Whether you're passionate about reading, numbers, or digital skills, this is your chance to inspire change and support others. Find out more and apply today.
Applications are now open. Deadline: Wednesday 10th September at 11:59pm.
