On 2nd April 2025, the United States announced updated tariff measures on certain imports from the United Kingdom. From 5th April, an additional 10% tariff applies to a range of UK goods, on top of existing US duties, fees and taxes.
Please be aware that the ‘Check duties and customs procedures for exporting goods’ tool has not yet been updated to reflect these changes. However, tariffs on steel, aluminium, and automotive goods are already in place, and the new 10% tariff is now in effect.
Goods excluded from the new 10% tariff include:
- Steel, aluminium, and automotive products (already subject to separate 25% tariffs)
- Copper, pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, and lumber
- Energy products and other minerals not readily available in the US
The Business and Trade Secretary, the Rt Hon Jonathan Reynolds MP, addressed Parliament following the announcement. While expressing disappointment in the US decision, he reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to securing a fair and balanced economic agreement. He also highlighted the Government’s pragmatic approach and ongoing negotiations.
