Kickstarting Grant

Back to Grant Finder

What is the grant available for?

THIS GRANT IS NOW CLOSED FOR APPLICATIONS - SHOULD FURTHER FUNDING BECOME AVAILABLE THE APPLICATION PROCESS WILL RE-OPEN FROM THIS PAGE

Interest in this grant has been extremely high since its announcement by central government, and it was therefore expected that demand would be significantly higher than the amount of grant available.

In order to provide a fair process for all businesses, the window for expressions of interest was opened at 9:00am on Thursday 3rd September 2020 precisely (as publicised). Within one hour of being open over 400 expressions of interest were received. This number alone would significantly exceed the total value of grants available, even if only a proportion of them submitted a full application. The decision has therefore been made to close the grant for applications.

It is expected that with the volume of applications already received, once these applications have been processed there will be no further funding available. However, if this is not the case an additional window for expressions of interest will be opened, and businesses will be notified through our communications channels.

Applications are being dealt with on a first come first served basis and the scheme has been closed

This grant is available to those businesses who can demonstrate they have been adversely effected by COVID19 and their investment is related to the recovery of the impacts from COVID19 on their business.

To qualify for these grants please see below some COVID19 related examples that could be considered:

  • 1-2-1 specialist advice which SMEs could call on to address their immediate needs in response to the impact of COVID 19 e.g. HR, accountants, legal, financial, H&S, IT / digital or sector specialists etc. ; and / or
  • purchase of minor equipment to adapt business processes, e.g., minor building works, equipment to deliver productivity improvements such as process controls, line cameras, new tooling; or
  • to adopt new technology in order to continue to deliver business activity or diversify in response to COVID 19 – ecommerce platforms, contactless payment systems, website developments such as e commerce systems, software development, IT hardware and software to support remote working.

Please see below examples of what cannot be funded through this scheme:

  • purchase of “standard” office information technology equipment such as laptops, or PC’s unless this has been highlighted as a requirement to enable remote working
  • ongoing normal business costs (i.e. business rates, overheads, basic equipment and tools required to undertake the economic activity, etc.)
  • costs associated with a statutory requirement for the business including making workplaces COVID secure, including implementing things like wash stations, screens and signage
  • any costs that have already been incurred prior to receiving the Grant approval

The total value of the grant pot available is £735,000.

Please be mindful that there will be huge interest in these grants, once the funding has been allocated applications will be closed.

Any required delivery targets / outcome required

The first step in the process is to complete the details on the email link below to register an Expression of Interest in the grant funding. Completion of this form is not a guarantee that funding will be awarded. Expressions of Interest will be processed on a first come first served basis.

The second step will be to complete an Application for Grant Funding which will be emailed to the successful applicants from step one. Applicants will have a strict three week time frame in which to complete and return their application for grant funding which will include providing 3 quotes for the supplies or services required  for the project. The project investment can only have a maximum of 10 suppliers with a minimum value per supplier of £250.00.

On return, the application will be assessed against the eligibility criteria and, subject to an application fulfilling the eligibility criteria, a grant award will subsequently be made.

Grants cannot be offered on a retrospective basis, and so it is important that businesses have not purchased or entered in to an agreement for the purchase of any goods or services until they receive confirmation whether their application has been successful and a grant award has been made in writing.

If a business is not successful initially, we will keep a waiting list and send a notification if further funding becomes available (for example, if another applicant does not complete an application on time or does not drawdown the full £3,000 of funding available per grant).

The Expression of Interest link will be removed from the webpage as soon as all of the funds have been committed.

The third step will be to complete the project and make a claim for the grant funding by providing evidence that the project has been completed and the proposed items of expenditure completed. For the avoidance of doubt, after you have a grant offer in writing, you will be required to make the purchase(s) and provide evidence of the expenditure from your business to drawdown the grant.

What grant amounts are available?

The minimum grant amount available will be £1,000 with a maximum per business of £3,000.

This grant will be operated on a first come first serve basis and although you may have submitted an Expression of Interest, this does not guarantee you will be awarded the grant.

To receive funding, businesses must submit an Expression of Interest. Although, doing so will not guarantee a grant. If approved, you have three weeks to complete a formal Application for Grant Funding.
