What is the Business Support?

Skills Bootcamps provide learners with skills that employers need.  They are flexible courses of at least 60 hours of learning, delivered over a maximum of 16 weeks. Skills Bootcamps give people the opportunity to gain sector-specific skills and fast-track to an interview with a local employer, or gain new skills in an existing job. Self-employed individuals can take part in Skills Bootcamps and grow their business.

Skills Bootcamps are delivered at a range of levels (2-5) to suit different skills needs. They are free to learners and can be online, face-to-face, or a mixture of both depending on the subject.

Learners who are employedself-employed or unemployed can attend Skills Bootcamps to gain skills for a new job or a new contract.

A full list of new Skills Bootcamps will be published here in due course.

Employers can also send members of staff onto Skills Bootcamps to fill skills gaps within the business.  The cost to an employer to send staff on Skills Bootcamps is subsidised by Government (90% for SMEs and 70% for large businesses).

For example, if the total cost of the Skills Bootcamp is £1500:

A large employer must pay 30% (£450) and you will be funded for the remainder (£1050) per learner.

An SME must pay 10% (£150) and you will be funded for the remainder (£1350) per learner.

Employers can get involved in various ways:

  • Offer interviews to learners who are looking for jobs and have completed a Skills Bootcamp;
  • Send staff onto Skills Bootcamps to help fill skills gaps in the workplace;
  • Work with local colleges, training providers and universities to design new Skills Bootcamps in preparation for further funding.

Contact local providers to find out more about the Skills Bootcamps they are running and how you can get involved.
