Co-op Seeks New Food and Drink Suppliers for the Apiary Incubator Programme

Published on: 21/01/2025

Co-op has opened applications for its Apiary Incubator programme, offering food and drink businesses an exciting opportunity to scale up and secure a listing on Co-op’s shelves. Businesses across Greater Lincolnshire and Rutland are encouraged to apply for this programme, which is designed to support innovative and purpose-driven suppliers on their journey to becoming retail-ready.

The Apiary programme provides tailored mentoring, insights, and advice on all aspects of the product journey, from refining packaging and branding to understanding customer needs and navigating the retail landscape. Participants also benefit from access to a supplier community network, which promotes collaboration and shared learning to drive growth and success.

Since its launch in 2022, the Apiary has supported 27 suppliers, resulting in over 70 product lines now stocked in Co-op stores. These businesses include Cháps, which creates soft drinks inspired by traditional African beverages, and Cheeky Nibble, a vegan snack brand with flavours inspired by British desserts. Other standout successes include ELEAT Cereal, Family Secret Proppadoms, and Some Grub, the first pet care brand to feature in the programme, showcasing the diversity and innovation that the Apiary fosters.

Rebecca Oliver-Mooney, Co-op’s Head of Commercial for Drinks, Frozen, Community Buying & the Apiary, said: “We know that shoppers in a convenience setting are looking for great quality and innovation – products that make life easier, can be consumed on-the-go, or offer an element of indulgence. The Apiary programme is about finding suppliers who not only bring a unique point of difference but also have the potential to grow and thrive in the retail market.”

This year, Co-op has expanded its programme to include an Accelerator track, enabling it to work with suppliers at different stages of their brand journey. This flexibility means the programme can now support more businesses, offering a unique opportunity for growth and exposure.

Local food and drink businesses in Greater Lincolnshire and Rutland with innovative ideas and a turnover of under £1 million are strongly encouraged to apply. Co-op is particularly interested in products that stand out from the crowd, resonate with customers, and align with its commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Applications for the Apiary programme close on 5 February 2025. Businesses can find more information and apply online at rangeme.com/apiary2025.

This is a fantastic opportunity for local businesses to showcase their creativity, access tailored support, and bring their products to a national audience. Don’t miss your chance to take your business to the next level with the help of Co-op’s Apiary Incubator programme.
