Funding Now Open to Explore Zero-emission Vehicle Manufacturing in the UK

Published on: 16/07/2025

UK businesses can now apply for funding through the DRIVE35 Scale-up: Feasibility Studies Competition, a government-backed scheme supporting the development of clean vehicle manufacturing across the country.

Part of the wider DRIVE35 programme, this opportunity is designed to help businesses explore how they could create or convert manufacturing facilities for zero-emission vehicle technologies. The aim is to strengthen the UK's transition to a net zero automotive sector and support future investment in low-emission vehicle production.

The funding is for feasibility studies only. These studies must investigate the potential for developing new or expanded facilities in the UK that manufacture eligible technologies, such as battery and supercapacitor systems, electric machines, driveline systems, power electronics including Vehicle to Everything (V2X), lightweight structures, hydrogen storage, and fuel cell systems. Internal combustion engine systems for off-road use are also eligible, provided they run on non-fossil fuels.

Applicants must be UK-registered businesses of any size. All work must be carried out in the UK, with a clear intention to use the results within the UK. The funding can be used to create detailed business cases, investment plans, facility layouts and other commercial strategies needed to move projects closer to development.

Projects can last up to nine months, with funding available between £150,000 and £750,000. Successful applicants can receive up to 60% of their eligible project costs if they are a small or medium-sized enterprise (SME), or up to 50% for larger organisations.

Applications must be submitted by 11:00am on 3rd September 2025.
