Supporting Staff Through Domestic Abuse: Free Training and Resources for Businesses in Lincolnshire

Published on: 05/12/2024

The Lincolnshire Domestic Abuse Partnership has launched a new initiative to support businesses across the county in helping employees affected by domestic abuse. By reaching out to local employers, they are offering free resources and training to create safer, more supportive workplace environments.

Addressing domestic abuse is part of an employer’s safeguarding duty of care, under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. Failing to do so can have a negative impact on staff morale, as well as harm a business’s reputation and image.

In Lincolnshire, approximately 30,200 people aged 16 to 74 experience domestic abuse per year, with 75% of them being directly abused at work. Those experiencing domestic abuse often struggle with concentration, find it difficult to progress in their roles, and experience low morale. In fact, 1 in 10 employees have quit their jobs as a result of the abuse they are facing.

The Lincolnshire Domestic Abuse Partnership programme includes online workshops tailored to improve employee well-being, promote safeguarding practices, and train domestic abuse champions within organisations. These sessions are designed to provide businesses with valuable insights and practical tools to effectively support their teams.

The partnership is encouraging businesses to assess whether they have a domestic abuse policy in place and to take steps to strengthen their commitment to employee welfare. Through free guidance and support, they aim to improve understanding, spark meaningful conversations, and create a culture of care and safety in workplaces across Lincolnshire.

Businesses are invited to explore what the partnership can offer and to take advantage of the resources available. For more information, including details on workshops and support services, visit the Domestic Abuse – Advice and Support for Businesses page on the Lincolnshire County Council website.

By engaging with this initiative, businesses can make a meaningful difference in the lives of their employees while promoting a culture of understanding and resilience.
