Mastering the Barbican Podcast Studio

21 May 2026 - 10:00 am • 21 May 2026 - 12:00 pm • Barbican Creative Hub

Event Information

The Barbican’s podcast suite is more than just a room. It is a space to give your ideas a professional platform. This workshop is designed to bridge the gap between creative vision and technical execution, ensuring you can use the studio to tell your story with clarity and impact.

Led by podcast producer Mark (#LincsLivesNatters), this session focuses on the practical workflows needed to capture professional audio and video. You’ll move from a briefing on studio environment and composition into a full hour of hands-on recording, giving you the confidence to produce your own content in this space.

What you’ll learn:

  • Setting the Scene: How to use furniture, lighting, and backdrops to create a visual style that matches your story.
  • Capturing the Voice: A walkthrough of the studio microphones and recording interface to ensure your audio is broadcast-ready.
  • Directing the Shot: Framing your podcast for different styles, from intimate solo monologues to collaborative interviews.
  • The One-Minute Intro: A short exercise to draft a punchy, engaging introduction that defines what your show is about.
  • Studio Production: A practical hour spent operating the cameras and microphones to record your scripted intro.
  • Polishing the Final Edit: How to handle environmental noise (like traffic or passing aircraft) to maintain a professional finish.

What to bring:

Please bring your smartphone for photos and notes. There is a short writing exercise, so please bring a notepad or a digital device to draft your one-minute script.

Prices: £16.50 (non member), £11.50 (member)
