How Business Lincolnshire Helped Little Crafters Boxes Turn Challenges into Opportunities

How Business Lincolnshire Helped Little Crafters Boxes Turn Challenges into Opportunities

When severe flooding devastated the Little Crafters Boxes workshop in 2024, founder and educator Radha Borthayre faced every small business owner’s nightmare: destroyed stock, halted operations, and an uncertain future.

But rather than give up, Radha, who brings 15 years of teaching experience, used the crisis as a catalyst for change.

Little Crafters Boxes, based in Sleaford, creates eco-friendly craft boxes and lesson plans for home-educated children, many with Special Educational Needs (SEN). As the UK’s only AQA-accredited STEM provider, the business combines hands-on creativity with accredited learning, helping young people grow in confidence while developing essential skills.

Each box is designed to spark curiosity, develop problem-solving, and inspire a lifelong love of learning. Alongside their products, Little Crafters Boxes is passionate about building an inclusive community where children, parents, and educators can connect, share experiences, and thrive together.

“We’re passionate about creating more than just craft kits,” explains Radha. “We want to build a supportive educational community that champions creativity and accessibility.”

From Challenge to Clarity

To rebuild stronger, Radha turned to Business Lincolnshire for guidance. Through the Manufacturing Growth Sprint workshops and 1:1 support from Manufacturing Advisor Trevor Durant, she gained fresh insight into improving processes, tackling production challenges, and shaping a roadmap for growth.

“The Manufacturing Growth Sprint was brilliant, very useful,” Radha says. “We’re looking forward to implementing what we’ve learnt. It’s given us real direction and clarity.”

The Lasting Impact

With renewed confidence and sharper strategy, Little Crafters Boxes is now planning its most ambitious step yet: opening one of Lincolnshire’s first remote exam centres for home-educated children.

“There’s currently only one other centre in the county,” Radha explains. “We want to create a relaxed, welcoming space that truly supports learners.”

When asked if she’d recommend Business Lincolnshire’s support to others, Radha didn’t hesitate: “Absolutely. The support has been invaluable. I’d highly recommend it to any business looking to grow, solve problems, or just gain fresh perspective.”

Thanks to Business Lincolnshire’s tailored advice and programmes, Little Crafters Boxes is moving forward with renewed clarity, confidence, and ambition, creating lasting impact for their business and local communities.
