Manufacturing Scale-up Research and Innovation: Automotive and Aerospace
End Date: 11/11/2026
Manufacturing Scale-up Research and Innovation: Automotive and Aerospace is a major research funding opportunity from UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) designed to help bridge the gap between research and full-scale manufacturing. The programme supports projects that address barriers to scaling up new technologies and processes within the automotive and aerospace sectors.
Funding is available for projects led by UK research organisations eligible for UKRI funding. Applicants must work closely with industry partners and demonstrate access to industrial-scale manufacturing environments. Projects should focus on converting proven innovations into repeatable, cost-effective and flexible manufacturing capabilities rather than developing entirely new products or technologies.
Research may address challenges such as digital manufacturing, artificial intelligence, robotics, advanced composites, electrified propulsion systems, automation, supply chain integration, resource-efficient production and manufacturing readiness. All applications must include partner match funding and demonstrate strong industrial engagement.
Large projects can request funding for up to four years, while smaller projects can run for up to two years. UKRI will fund 80% of the Full Economic Cost (FEC) of eligible projects. Applications must be submitted through the UKRI funding system and organisations are required to complete an Intent to Submit survey before applying here.
