Sustainable Medicines Manufacturing Innovation: CR&D Round 2

Innovate UK, working with the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), is investing up to £7 million through the Sustainable Medicines Manufacturing Innovation: CR&D Round 2 competition to accelerate the development and adoption of sustainable medicines manufacturing technologies.
The programme supports collaborative research and development projects that improve environmental and commercial performance across medicines manufacturing. Projects must address one or more of three priority areas: green chemistry, circularity, and productivity and resource efficiency. Successful projects are expected to deliver measurable improvements in areas such as waste reduction, emissions reduction, energy efficiency, productivity, or resource use.
Eligible projects must request between £500,000 and £1 million in grant funding, run for between nine and twelve months, start by 1 April 2027 and finish by 31 March 2028. Applications must be collaborative and include at least one UK-registered SME claiming grant funding. The lead organisation can be a UK-registered business, charity, public sector organisation, research and technology organisation, catapult centre or not-for-profit organisation.
All funded activity must be carried out primarily in the UK, with applicants intending to exploit project outcomes within the UK. Applications are submitted through the Innovation Funding Service via the Government Grants portal.
