How E-Invoicing Could Benefit Your Business

Published on: 27/02/2025

Businesses across Greater Lincolnshire are invited to take part in a government consultation on e-invoicing – a digital system that could make invoicing faster, more efficient and more secure.

What is e-invoicing?

E-invoicing allows businesses to send and receive invoices directly between financial systems, even if they use different software. This means invoices are processed automatically, reducing the need for manual input. The result? Fewer errors, quicker payments and less admin for businesses.

Why is this consultation important?

The UK government, through HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) and the Department for Business and Trade (DBT), is exploring how e-invoicing can be rolled out more widely across businesses and the public sector. By taking part in this consultation, you can help shape how this system works and ensure any changes meet the needs of businesses like yours.

E-invoicing could bring a range of benefits, including: Faster payments – Invoices are processed automatically, reducing delays. Fewer mistakes – Reduces the risk of human error, such as incorrect details or missed invoices. Better cash flow – Getting paid on time helps businesses manage their finances more effectively. Less admin – Automating invoices frees up time to focus on growing your business. Easier tax returns – Reducing errors in invoicing could make tax reporting smoother.

Who should take part?

The consultation is open to all businesses – from small sole traders to large companies – as well as industry bodies, trade groups, and individuals. Whether you already use e-invoicing or are completely new to it, your input is valuable in shaping future policies.
