HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) is urging businesses to move to their new Customs Declaration Service.
The UK’s new customs platform is a secure digital platform replacing the Customs Handling of Import and Export Freight (CHIEF).
CHIEF will close in two phases
- Phase one: after 30 September 2022, the ability to make import declarations will end
- Phase two: after 31 March 2023, the ability to make export declarations will end
Import declarations must be submitted through the new Customs Declaration Service from 1 October this year when it takes over from the Customs Handling Import and Export Freight (CHIEF) system for import declarations.
