With its rich history, stunning landscapes, and a plethora of affordable attractions, there's no shortage of things to do and places to explore. Here’s a look at some fantastic ideas for budget-friendly days out in the region.

Explore the rolling hills, charming villages, and breath-taking vistas of the Lincolnshire Wolds, an area of outstanding natural beauty. Take leisurely walks - the Viking Trail being one of the more famous options - or bike rides along the many trails and enjoy the tranquil countryside. There are plenty of rural, family run pubs and cafes to refuel in whilst you rack those miles up too.

You can also experience the largest man-made lake in the UK, Rutland Water. Go sailing, kayaking, or windsurfing on its shimmering waters. Birdwatchers will be delighted by the variety of species in the nature reserves surrounding the lake. If you are a little more adventurous or have children in your group, then be sure to check out the inflatable water assault course and the woodland laser tag too. There are also many beautiful country parks to enjoy, across the region, many will have summer trails on offer for children, whilst also being a great place to take a picnic to keep things affordable and of course, they are all dog friendly too.

In addition to beautiful countryside and reservoirs, the region also boasts some beautiful coastal gems. Don't miss the stunning coastline of Lincolnshire for sandy beaches, traditional amusements, and seaside fun.

Immerse Yourself in Culture

Explore the historic city of Lincoln, home to the iconic Lincoln Cathedral and Castle. Marvel at the cathedral's Gothic architecture and climb the castle's towers for panoramic views of the city, whilst learning some fantastic facts about the history of the Cathedral from the extremely knowledgeable tour guides.

Suitable for all ages and brimming with summer family fun are the regions Heritage Sites, such as the ruins of Tattershall Castle and Doddington Hall with its beautiful gardens and annual Summer Sculpture Trail. It’s also worth exploring museums like the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre, which houses a Lancaster bomber, the Collection in Lincoln, which has a play area for little ones and lots of interactive activities, and the Usher Gallery, which houses a diverse collection of contemporary and traditional art. The Museum of Lincolnshire Life is also certain to ignite the fascination of adults and children alike.

To make the most of your time at any of the above, consider joining guided tours that showcase the region's highlights. Local tour operators offer guided walks, historical tours, wildlife excursions, and even food and drink experiences, (the famous Lincoln Ghost Walk is always one not to be missed.) The region is also full of brewing heritage so if you find yourself child free, take tours, taste craft beers, and learn about the brewing process in the region’s local breweries and distilleries too.

Both towns offer a mix of architecture, from medieval to Georgian too so be sure to soak up the historic atmosphere whilst you are there and, if you’re in Stamford, why not visit Burghley House too, a beautiful stately home with a fantastic children’s play area too.
